Back from San Diego and getting my head back into the game. I have to admit from an attendee point-of-view, this year’s Comic-Con was pretty meh. There seemed to be nothing new, and the place seemed over-ran by the Hollywood crowd, Twilight kiddies and G4. Heck, most of the Star Wars panels wound up being hosted by one of the two moronic hosts of G4′s Attack of the Show.
Plus, as of next year, the whole con tickets have jumped up to $100, and I will bet soon enough SDCC will price itself out of the Geek market and go full-on Sundance clone (which I’m sure is what Hollywood wants.)
In a time of recession, SDCC should be keeping their prices down to tempt the geek community to come in and spend lots of money. By raising the tickets prices, it’s going to make most attendees think twice, as it’ll take even more money from their spending budgets (especially if the hotels follow suit and jack their over-priced hotel room rates more than this year’s.)
That in turn will mean vendors will make less money and justify them pulling out of having a booth at SDCC (from what I’ve been told, a lot of vendors already are not happy with having to pay the same rates as the Hollywood studio promotional booths.)
If that happens then SDCC will just become an amalgam of Sundance and a trade show, being for industry only.
Gotta make a quick trip into Valencia, to pick up a special order, come back, pack up the car and then it’s off to San Diego.
It’ll be odd not being in costume this year for the Con, but at least I’ll still have fun. Panels to see, stuff to buy and previwes of what’s to come.
Yay, Comic-Con!
And, yes, this is another doodle I did whilst working at the booth at Frank and Son Collectible Show.
San Diego Comic-Con starts this Wednesday, and I’ll be down there for Preview Night, and will be enjoying the whole week, whilst also being a promotions whore for this very webcomic.
I won’t be in costume this year, as doing so made me miss quite a few panels, that I would loved to have gone to.
I’ll be working on material whilst I’m in San Diego, and the SDCC adventures will commence when I return on Monday.
Chris can’t find a costume that he wants to wear for SDCC, and he decides that maybe it’s time to go cosplay-less.
It’s actually how even I feel right now, to go in costume or not. I’d like to, but there’s too many pros and cons this year.
It’s just a week away, now. SDCC is getting closer and closer. The week of pure Geekdom is close at hand, and we’re all getting ready.
Just this year, I won’t be in costume as any of the Doctors or anyone else. I’ll just be plain old me.
The run upto San Diego Comic-Con gets more hectic, and I’m getting last minute things done before the wife and I head down to San Diego, so I’ve been using my time at our booth at Frank and Son Collectible Show, to doodle whilst I worked.
So, if you find yourself in the City of Industry area of Southern California on any given Wednesday night or Saturday morning, then pop to Frank and Son Collectible Show, and head to booth #704. Come check out all the Doctor Who stuff we have for sale, and if you bring any printed strip from this very webcomic, I’ll sign it for you.
Something I doodled whilst at the Panderson N’ Stuff booth down at Frank and Son Collectible Show.
Yes, I was never impressed by anything done by Joss Whedon, and I’m less impressed by his fawning die-hard fans.
That time of year is almost around the corner (two and a half weeks away, to be precise) and we all flock to the biggest geek event this side of the planet Earth. Yes, folks, I talk of San Diego Comic-Con.
I’m getting myself revved up and ready to be in costume, once more, as the 10th Doctor, along with my friends, who’ll also be dressing as other Doctors and companions. I’m in the works of finding a trust-worthy hair dresser to do my hair and get decent hair-dye.
