Doing Sketch-Cards at Star Wars Day @ Frank and Son Collectible Show
February 20th, 2010 | by CarlToday was awesome. I was doing sketch cards based on Star Wars, at Frank and Son Collectible Show. for Star Wars Day.
I got to hang out all day with my chums, Hal Hefner and Mat Nastos. I also got to hang with Daniel (Boba Fett) Logan and Ray (Darth Maul) Park, along with Randy Martinez and the ever-stunning Denise Vasquez.
I wound up cranking out a tonne of cards and made a lot of kids happy. It was a great day, had by all. And, do you know what, I’d love to do it all over again.
I still have a huge bunch of cards that are still available, so if you want a one of a kind Star Wars sketch-card, let me know which ones you want (examples are in the photos) and we can sort out a Paypal transaction.
As hard as I try to get some strips done for this week, since my guest artist fell ill, I just cannot get into that frame of mind that allows me to create anything.
I sit here and stare at a blank comic board and find myself going blank. I just can’t seem to transmit the funny. I destroyed four boards, already, as I try to do something that turns out awful. Heck, I can’t even do a good sketch card.
It seems the Creative side of me fell asleep during my holiday, and try as I might, he just won’t wake up.
I think I’ll add some sketch cards, as a gap filler, to make up for this week. Bear with me.
Everything will be back to normal on Monday. I’ll make sure of that…
Okay, got to the bottom of things. There was a major tech screw-up, and the guest strips that were meant for this week were lost in the ether of the web. However, I am going to work like a furious bastard and get a strip up tomorrow night and there will be a strip this Friday, no matter what tries to impede me.
Well, there were going to be guest strips this week, but the artist kept forgetting to pass them onto me, even to the point of becoming unreachable on the final day.
So, without guest strips, this week will go empty whilst I’m away on holiday. I might be able to crank one out for Friday, if I’m back in time.
But, until then, accept my apologies, and if you’re a fellow webcomic artist, take this as a lesson as to why its always good to have back-up strips in abundance, in case you find yourself left in the empty, when guest artists forget to send their work to you.
There may not be a strip today, as I’m swamped by doing the sales tax for my business, and I’m surrounded by paperwork, that my wife and I are having to sort through, calculate and do other wonders of math with.
If I do get a strip out today, it’ll be a bloody miracle. It may shift to tomorrow, instead.
So, if you hear the sound of screaming today, don’t worry, its just me.
NBC, has Jay “The Big Chin” Leno got you that much by the collective balls that you’re willing to sacrifice the latest Tonight Show host to placate such an unfunny and untrustworthy doucenozzle, who would happily screw over not just a fellow NBC colleague, but also a show’s legacy and it’s viewers?
For shame, NBC, for shame.
And, to Leno, if you don’t want to go down in history as the man who screwed the Johnny Carson legacy, not once, but twice, then take the civil grace to just walk away. Accept your little pet project failed and go play with your car collection. Besides, I hear Vegas needs a “stand-up” comic to entertain the geriatric gamblers since Danny Gans passed on.
The strip is growing, and heading out into new directions. I’m redoing old strips in the present styling and in colour, for readers to enjoy every Saturday. I also have some awesome news to share with everyone in January 2010. I’m also looking into merchandising with T-shirts and other materials.
I feel 2010 will be take-off year for Geeks – the Comic Strip, and will see the comic grow into a bigger form. Having the help and insight of Mat Nastos and Hal Hefner has been a great incentive to me and getting me to raise my personal goals and aims with this strip.
I’m really looking forward to the new year, as it’s going to be fun.
As you can see, I’ve been doing some work on this site, and adding a few bells and whistles to the place. Thanks to the prodding of my pal, Mat Nastos, over at Elfsong.com, I’ve been trying to add some character to this site. Of course, there will be more work to be done, but I think it’s a nice start.
Also, just to let you know, I’ll be at Frank and Son Collectible Show, tomorrow, at booth #704 (Panderson N’ Stuff), doing some artwork and perhaps even working on this coming Friday’s strip. I’ll also be popping into booth #807, The Comic Book Art Institute, to hang with Mat Nastos and Hal Hefner.
So come along, meet some silly comic artists, and if you have any prints of our stuff, we’ll be happy to sign them.
Yep, I decided to take the dive into Windows 7, so right now, I am re-installing all my software, after a pretty smooth OS installation. Hopefully I should have a new strip up on Wednesday, before I head down to the Frank and Son Collectible Show, to sell all the new Doctor Who items.
So far, the new Windows 7 is pretty much cleaner and smoother than Vista, and all the reinstallations to get my system back upto full working status are going without a hitch.
Strips are being drawn, it’s just a matter of finishing the installs, and then it’ll be scanning and colouring time.
Hey folks, today’s strip (aka. Monday) will be posted tomorrow (aka. Tuesday), as I’m feeling a little queesy after being hit with some food poisoning, due to a pretty dodgy Lamb Curry.
Suffice to say, this is the second time this has happened after eating one of my mother-in-law’s lamb curries, I guess I’m a sucker for punishment.
Anyhow, I’m slowly drawing each panel between guzzling lots of water and fighting off the waves of nausea, and I promise to upload the strip on Tuesday, barf-free and in colour.
