So, I finally got to attend my first Wondercon, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very nice large Artist Alley section and many vendors and purveyors of collectible goods.
It was a full honest-to-goodness comic convention, with no heavy Hollywood presence, turning it all into a mass-media event. The crowds were manageable. There were no scrambles for freebies, apart from at the booth for The Avengers.
I got to meet a great wealth of comic artists, and got to chat with Kris Straub (creator of Chainsaw Suit, Starslip, F-Chords), Dave Kellett (Sheldon, Pugs and Drive), Jeff Schuetze (creator of JefBot) and PJ Perez (creator of The Utopian Comic), as well as many, many other awesome people.
This year’s show in Anaheim, CA was only a test run, but if things change with Wondercon’s contract with San Francisco, I sincerely hope that Anaheim does their best to entreat the organisers of this wonderful convention, that Anaheim is a great new home for their convention for many years to come. Plus, it means I can get a table next year, without having to worry about hotels, etc…
The turn-out was great, even during the Saturday downpour, which did not deter the fans or the cosplayers.
Also, I wish to say a big hi to all the new visitors who have been coming here, after taking a card from me at the convention. It was nice to meet you all.
